Glitterin vierailua varten halusin kynsille jotain mahdollisimman omalla mukavuusalueella olevaa ja omaa silmää miellyttävää. Tällä kertaa harmaista voiton vei Essien perinteinen Maximillian Strasse Her. Tuo lakka vaatii ainakin kaksi kerrosta peittääkseen, mutta leveä sivellin tekee lakasta kuitenkin helppokäyttöisen. Heti alusta asti tiesin, että tulisin tekemään yksinkertaisen skittletten, joten sehän kynsille sitten muodostuikin. Kaveriksi harmaalle tuli valkoinen leimaus ja Picture Polishin Heavy Metal (niin hyvä nimi!). Heavy Metalia en oikein osaa käyttää suuremmalla pinta-alalla, mutta yhdellä tai kahdella kynnellä kerrallaan lakka on ihan mahtava.

Leimaus on juuri saapuneesta Born Pretty Storen BP-L011 -laasta, josta löytyy niin metsämaisemaa eläimineen ja puineen kuin myös paljon erilaisia kukkia. Etenkin noiden kukkien kanssa voi kynsille toteuttaa vaikka mitä, koska todella monet soveltuvat hienosti stamping decalsien tekoon.

Kynnet ainakin olivat sellaiset joissa viihdyin eli voisinpa todeta onnistuneeni omassa tavoitteessani. PS. Lemony Flutter löytyi vihdoin muuton jäljiltä!

For our visit to Glitter I wanted to do nail art that would totally be on my comfort zone and something that I would like. This time I chose Essie's traditional Maximillian Strasse Her. That polish needs at least two layers to cover nails properly, but wide brush makes the polish so easy to use. From the beginning I knew that I would be doing a skittlette of some sort and that's exactly what hapened. I needed friends for the grey, so I did stamping with white and also added Picture Polishes Heavy Metal (such a great name!) for one nail on each hand. I don't really know how to use Heavy Metal on every nail, but with one or two nails it's really nice.

The stamping image is from a Born Pretty Store -plate BP-L011 that I just got. It has forest, animals, plants and flowers in it. Especially with those flowers you can do so many different sort of nail art. Many of those are great for making stamping decals.

These nails were such that I really liked being with them so I could say that I achieved my goal. PS. I finally found my Lemony Flutter after it had been lost in the moving process!

Polish of the Month, February 2015

Taas on valittu viime kuulta mieleenjääneitä lakkoja. Tällä kertaa valinta osui kahteen OPIin ja yhteen Picture Polishiin. Mikään näistä ei hohda uutuuttaan, mutta se ei tee näistä kolmesta yhtään huonompia lakkoja.

OPI - Chic From Ears To Tail

Chic From Ears To Tail on julkaistu Couture de Minnie -kokoelmassa keväällä 2013. Kyseinen lakka on ilmestymisestään asti ollut huonossa maineessa. Sen laatu on erityisen heikko ja lakatessa pitää olla todella tarkkana ettei se valu kynsinauhoille. Lisäksi kerroksia vaaditaan melko monta, jotta lakka olisi peittävä. Haalea vaaleanpunainen on kuitenkin niin kaunis sävy, että olen pitänyt lakasta kiinni. Esimerkiksi kuvassa olevassa liukuvärissä tätä oli helppo käyttää, koska lakan ei tarvinnut heti peittää kunnolla.

Picture Polish - Heavy Metal

Heavy Metal on vuoden 2009 Mesh Shades -kokoelmassa eli kauan ennen kun itse tiesin yhtään mitään koko kynsilakkamerkin olemassaolosta. Tai ylipäätään indielakoista. Lakka näyttää pullossa paljon tummemmalta kuin se on kynsillä. Heavy Metal on todella kaunis harmaa glitterlakka. Lakan pinta ei kuitenkaan jää liian rosoiseksi vaikka glitteriä lakassa onkin vaikka muille jakaa. Nimellisesti lakka on myös ihan oma juttuni, joten vaikka joskus harkitsin lakan tarpeellisuutta itselleni niin nyt olen siitä ihan vakuuttunut.

OPI - Bubble Bath

Bubble Bath on osa OPIn Soft Shades -kokoelmaa ja pehmeä sävy se onkin. Lakka on itselleni myös melkoinen ongelmatapaus. Koostumukseltaan Bubble Bath on selkeä jelly eli se ei peitä helposti monellakaan kerroksella. Lakka on sävyltään nude, mutta omaan ihonsävyyni ei tämä ihan kokonaan katoa, melko sopiva sävy kuitenkin on jo kyseessä. Ongelmaksi itselläni tämän lakan käytössä muodostuu kuitenkin aina tuo jelly-ominaisuus, aina kun ei jaksa nähdä niin kamalasti vaivaa. Ranskalaisten manikyyrien pohjaksi tämä lakka kuitenkin sopii hienosti.

OPI - Chic From Ears To Tail

Chic From Ears To Tail was published in the Couture de Minnie -collection in the spring 2013. This polish has had a bad reputation since the moment it was published. It's very weak in quality, when using it you need to be careful so that it doesn't drip on your cuticles. You also need to polish many layers to make this opaque. This beautiful light pink shade has been such a pretty shade that I have kept this polish. For example in the gradient in the picture this polish was easy to use since it didn't need to be opaque right away.

Picture Polish - Heavy Metal

Heavy Metal is from the 2009 Mesh Shades -collection. So this was way before I even knew that Picture Polish existed, or any indie polish brand for that matter. This polish looks a lot darker than it does on nails. Heavy Metal is such a pretty grey glitter polish. The surface of the polish isn't too rough even though there's so much glitter in this polish. Namewise this polish is just in my comfort zone, so even if I earlier thought if I really needed this polish, now I'm sure about it.

OPI - Bubble Bath

Bubble Bath is a part of OPI's Soft Shades -collection, and a soft shade it really is. This polish is quite a problem for me. Bubble Bath is a obvious jelly so it doesn't cover nails easily and takes many layers. The shade of this polish is nude, but to my own skintone this isn't a complete match. It's quite close though. The problem for me with this polish is the jelly -quality, I just can't make all that effort every time. For french manicure base this polish is perfect though.

#ablecs15 Week 2: Shades of Grey

Kyllä - olen lukenut kaikki kolme Fifty Shades of Grey -kirjaa, elokuva sen sijaan on näkemättä. Itseasiassa aloitin lukemaan ensimmäistä kirjaa jo reilu vuosi sitten, mutta lopetin sen noin sivulla 40 koska kirja oli niin huono. Syksyllä aloitin uudestaan ja pääsin kirjan loppuun. Koska kirja jäi siihen kohtaan mihin jäi, niin oli luettava se toinenkin ja sitten oli jäljellä enää yksi niin luinpa sitten senkin. Kirjat ovat ihan kevyttä luettavaa, eivät kyllä todellakaan mitään huippukirjallisuutta. (Tällä paikalla oli ennen pitkä mielipidekirjoitus, säästin teidät siltä)

Ei haluttu tällä teemalla alleviivata kirjoja/elokuvaa liikaa ja jätettiin nimellisesti tähän haasteeseen enemmän tulkinnanvaraa. Itse lähdin kuitenkin liikkeelle edes vähän tästä kirjasarjasta ja alusta asti oli selvää, että tulisin käyttämään pitsikuviota. Leimat ovat Born Pretty Storelta testiin saadusta BP-02 -laatasta. Laatta toimi todella hyvin leimauksessa, ei mitään valitettavaa. Alla on China Glazen nimihirviö Intelligence, Integrity & Courage, kaksi kerrosta.

Lakkauksen varsinainen tähti on kuitenkin Picture Polishin glitterlakka Heavy Metal, joka on istunut laatikossa pitkään ja olenkin pohtinut vakavasti sen myymistä. Nyt kun olen sen käyttänyt kynsillä en voi uskoa, että olen odottanut sen testaamista näin kauan. Pullossa Heavy Metal näyttää kovin synkältä, mutta kynsille päästessään se on yhtä kimallusta koko lakka. Koostumukseltaan Heavy Metal on melko paksua eli peittää kynnet nopeasti. Samalla sen käytössä pitää kuitenkin olla tarkkana, että liian suuria lakkakasoja ei pääse kynsille jäämään. Nyt tämä lakka todellakin on ansainnut paikkansa kokoelmassani, nimi ja lakkapullon sisältö ovat kumpikin kohdallaan.

Yes - I have read all the three Fifty Shades of Grey -books, the movie is yet to be seen. I actually started reading the first book over a year ago but stopped about the page 40 since t was so bad. Last fall I started again and made it to the end. Since the book ended as it did I needed to read the second one and then I had only one book left so I read that too. These books are quite light to read, but they're not anywhere near to be great literature. 

We didn't want to highlight the movie or the books too much with this theme and left it so that you could do what you want with the theme. I still wanted to do something related to the series and from the beginning decided that I would do lace patterns on the nails. The stamping image is from Born Pretty Store's plate BP-02 I have gotten for review. It worked really well and has some really nice lace patterns in it. I used China Glaze's Intelligence, Integrity & Courage underneath, two layers. The true star of these nails is Picture Polishes Heavy Metal. I have had this polish for quite some time and thought about giving it up. Now that I have seen it on my nails I can't understand why I waited this long. It looked so dark on the bottle but on nails it sparkles so beautifully. It's quite thick so you don't need many layers for opaque result. But at the same time you might want to be careful while putting it on your nails so that it doesn't form piles of polish. Now this polish has definitely deserved it's place in my collection, both the name and the polish are great. What do you think about Fifty Shades of Grey? How do you like these nails?
